Description of works

1 – Embroidering in silence | 2009-16

To make my own what I received as an inheritance - a linen tablecloth set from my parents’ wedding trousseau, - I began to cover its printwork in free embroidery that I created along with relatives and friends who contributed to the making of this work.

    • printed linen tablecloth set, free embroidery on cotton
    • variable dimensions
    • EXHIBITIONS: 'Poética têxtil’, Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade, São Paulo, Brasil / ‘Nós’, Caixa Cultural, Brasília, Brasil

2 – Good boys go to heaven, bad boys go everywhere | 2005-16

This work evokes how hard it is for us to respect difference, even when we are experiencing the direst of moments. The magazine collection at the source of this work belonged to a friend who—in certainty of his impending, premature death—was apprehensive enough about it to ask me to remove it from his home so that his parents would not find it. He then suggested I keep it in the event that I might someday use it in my work.

  • homoerotic magazines, angel shape hole puncher
  • 200 x 300 x 15 cm
  • EXHIBITIONS: 'Nós’, Caixa Cultural, Brasília, Brasil

3 – Words | 2016

I created a poetic vocabulary of affects for a dialogue between love and loneliness––nostalgia, melancholy, utopia, reverie, fantasy, abandonment––and then transposed them onto leaves of very thin paper: juxtaposed and placed side by side, they compose a text at once verbal and imagistic.
