MOTHER-LAGOON | 2019

This embroidery reproduces the outline of what is currently known as the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, as it may have appeared in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth centuries: the original image was found on the internet and omits several details. But the lagoon is even larger, it has never been land filled, the rivers that flow into it have not been canalized or covered up. I feel a special fondness for this place and for its landscape; ever since I arrived in Rio de Janeiro, it has been a point of equilibrium.
